Top Secret! I’m Kind of a Web Designer . . .

Shh! Don’t tell anyone! 😉

Never mind, I just announced it to the whole blogging world. I’m kind of a web designer. I’m been designing websites (super simple ones) since I was, like, eleven. It’s not a life ambition or anything, but it has proved extremely useful in my family.

As our goals and directions have changed on our farm over the years, so have our websites. We want to be part of the online community, and we need a website to do that. So I’m always the one commissioned to create them. And I enjoy it.

Right now, we have two websites running. (I think I can fairly say this is the last time I’ll have to do a major refit/overhaul.) Take a look at the first one on this screenshot:

As you can see from the navigation menu in the screenshot, there were several very different topics to be included in the website, which is always a bit of a challenge.

This is a sample of the about page. Check out the rest of it here.

Now for the second website. This one is directly related to my sustainable agriculture research program, so it required a bit of a different approach.

I needed to balance the professionalism and simplicity of the design in this one, so all in all, very different from the first.

Boldface type lends itself to emphasizing certain words in a block of text. Not to be overused, but helpful, for sure.
